Omer’s Story
Secret of Success:
Non-Cognitive Skills
Growing up, Omer’s culture gave him four (4) career options only: Doctor, Lawyer, Engineer or Failure. When he showed excellence in Math and Physics, the obvious choice was Engineering.
As an engineer at University of Waterloo, Omer quickly learnt that the one way to survive the brutal coursework was to be singularly-focused on studying. While the strategy helped him graduate with honors, he soon realized that all the electromagnetic theories did not really define success in the non-academic world. He spent many years trying to find a suitable job and career based on his definition of success: “Success = Money”. Even though he found partial ‘success’, he always felt that there is something ‘missing’.
After the loss of a loved one Omer went on an introspective journey to discover himself, his passion and most importantly: his purpose in life. The deliberate practice of introspection helped him discover his Ikigai: his reason for being…He finally found the ‘missing’ piece.
And that was to teach, to educate, to coach and empower those seeking to make a positive impact in this world.
Omer quickly realized that in order to create a better world we need to create better and more impactful leaders.
Hence, Omer started looking for the answer to What makes leaders great? His search led him to numerous books, research papers and mentors that said something so basic yet so powerful:
Leadership is a teachable skill. It is not about teaching how to become a great leader.
Rather it is about learning how to learn any skill in the world.
This insight led him to explore the question: How to master learning? And after 1,000+ hours of research on the psychology of success, mastering new skills, motivational psychology, how the brain works, and more, the answer he found was NON-COGNITIVE SKILLS. Having a strong foundation of non-cognitive skills, such as Self-Awareness, Grit, Growth Mindset and Optimism enable us to learn any skill in the world!
By combining his Ikigai with his business acumen and human-centric problem solving skills as an engineer with an M.B.A, Omer is on a mission to inculcate non-cognitive skills by applying a more student-centric approach to learning in Schools, Colleges, Universities, Corporate Organizations and even at an individual level....Because the learning should never stop!
